One small amendment to my previous post.
Never dump someone over email. No offense, but it's cowardly and insensitive.
(sorry this isn't quite "entertaining" as I promised below. but it had to be said nonetheless.)
[ 29.4.01 2:30 PM | ahhhhhh ]
I'm baack ...
It's nice to be home where the showers are free, the temperature falls neither below freezing while sleeping nor above 90 during the day and I don't have to pay a buck for four minutes of internet time (those who got a really *really* quick email, that's why. Almost two minutes to log into hotmail, and another minute to retrieve my mail doesn't leave a lot of time for formalities. sorry)I've been awake for going on close to 30 hours now (can't sleep on overnight flights) so this will be brief. I promise to be more entertaining tomorrow after I've moved all my stuff in Waterloo and have gotten a few hours sleep.
(BTW it was absolutely *gorgeoous* in the Grand Canyon. I highly recommend a visit. And stop in Sedona while you are there.)

I'm finally outta the crackhouse. My stuff still resides there for another week, but I am physically out. I think my mind left a few weeks ago and just didn't tell my body.
Our flight leaves at 6:20 tomorrow morning. That means a 4:30 departure time from our house, and a 3:30 wake-up call to do the last minute things that always need to be done. feed the cats. feed the hedgehog. double-check for my passport (forgot that last time). Make sure the stove is off. make sure the doors are locked.
See you in a week.
[ 18.4.01 9:55 PM | 48 hours ]
Two more days then I'm outta here. I can't wait. The thing is, I don't even want to go on vacation anymore. It's -5 at night where we're camping.
What I really want to do is just want to go home and cocoon. I'm worn out from the events of the past week.
But that is not to be.
[ 17.4.01 7:17 PM | something's gotta give ]
I've had this song stuck in my head on and off for several weeks now. I know it's kinda sappy, but there's something about it ...
[ 6:59 PM | what a difference a day makes ]When an irresistible force such as you
Meets and old immovable object like me
You can bet as sure as you live
Something's gotta give, something's gotta give,
Something's gotta give.
When an irrepressible smile such as yours
Warms an old implacable heart such as mine
Don't say no because I insist.
Somewhere, somehow,
Someone's gonna be kissed.
So en garde who knows what the fates have in store
From their vast mysterious sky?
I'll try hard ignoring those lips I adore
But how long can anyone try?
Fight, fight, fight, fight, fight it with all of our might,
Chances are some heavenly star spangled night
We'll find out as sure as we live
Something's gotta give, something's gotta give,
Something's gotta give.
Johnny Mercer: Something's Gotta Give
The picture on the left is the view from my bedroom window this morning. The picture on the right is the view this evening when I got home. All the snow is gone, the grass is green, the sun is shining.
What a difference a day can make.
[ 16.4.01 9:36 PM | logs ]
I missed my bus coming out of my exam by one minute so I decided to walk home ... in the rain/snow ...
The change machine wouldn't take my $5 so I could get some food ... neither of them would in fact ...
I was at the corner, not two seconds from my house and I was splashed by a truck ... soaking ... cold ...
I got home and checked my stats and saw this referral search text: i took a menial job just to get my foot in the door and i want out
An odd day indeed.
[ 15.4.01 3:58 PM | news news and more news ]
Woo hoo. Big day here at mayhaps. Well, big for me at least. You see, I've been keeping a little secret from all (or most) of you. I was waiting for a new story to be finished and now that it is, the moment of unveiling is here.
drumroll...
I have a new site: caughtinalie.com . It is the new home for all my stories. This blog and all other things will remain here, and I will still be posting here when a new story is released, but all past and future stories will now reside at caughtinalie. I don't think it will make a huge difference to most of you, seeing as pretty much the only things that show up in my stats are this blog and the webcam.
Any complaints, let me know . In the meantime, here's some Homemade Soup for the soul.
[ 14.4.01 7:21 PM | nitpick ]
Yes, I know it's been a while, but I finally have a new word: " nitpick: to be concerned with or find fault with insignificant details ".
It's not really a unique or unusual word or anything, I had just never thought of its origin before this week. You see, a nit is "the egg or young of a parasitic insect." So the term nitpicking comes from the idea of removing nits, a task which requires precision and attention to details because of the minute nature of the nits.
Yummy.
[ 9:53 AM | that's almost a full term's tuition ]I was actually looking for the website of the place where I got my navel piercing done when I came across this navel bar which sells for the exorbitant price of US$1350. That's right, not $13.50, but $1350.00. Just over a grand. For a navel bar.
Oh, to be that rich.
[ 13.4.01 7:46 PM | :P ]
phooey.
[ 12.4.01 5:06 PM | so close i can taste it ]
I just realized that we are now officially into the single digits for time left at the crackhouse.
9 more days. Nine. More. Days.
Nice.

Have you ever wondered what's in veggie hotdogs?
I mean, think about it. Hot dogs have long been rumoured to be filled with the scraps of the scraps - the things you don't want to name (or perhaps those parts have no names?) And most veggie dogs taste surprisingly close to the real deal.
So I got curious about what was in my dogs. First stop was to find out what is in meat hot dogs ...
And surprisingly enough, it's meat. Not the prime cut, but still meat. And those "extras"? They are there. But they have to be labelled. BTW, I love the way they refer to those extras like the heart, kidney, or liver - "variety meats" or "edibal offal".
Oh yes, and this also includes "Tongues and spleens and that type of thing." And believe it or not "the front feet only, not the hind the front. They don't have too much hair on them." So no eyeballs or tails, but a load of other "goodies".
But back to the veggie dogs ... the most common ingredients I see are a subset of soy protein isolate, soybean oil, and hydrolyzed soy protein. Which I admit, do sound a little odd.
But not as odd as hoofs .
[ 6:48 PM | campin' in the canyon ]I've decided I need a vacation to pump some energy back into my writing.
Of course, perhaps this conclusion was influenced in part by the fact that I am going on vacation in a week and a half, but nonetheless, I think it'll do my writing some good. It certainly can't hurt it, now can it.
The last time I went camping I wrote up a storm, and that was only for 3 days. This time it's 8, plus I have the added bonus of the scenery to help fuel my intellectual fire.
[ 10.4.01 3:32 PM | it's a beautiful day ]
Ugh.
Today is a beautiful day. Normally I would comment that I didn't get to enjoy it because I spent the day sheltered in my cubicle, clicking away at my computer. But instead, I get to comment that I didn't get to enjoy the sunshine because I spent the better part of the day either being sick, or sleeping in an attempt to rid my body of whatever is making me sick.
Yesterday I was fine. Today I am sick. It seems I keep finding things that my body just doesn't like.
The first to go I think was apples. Apple juice is okay, but whole apples are not (it has to do with the skins). Red meat was a little hard (bacon is *oh-so-very-good*) but the sacrifice had to be made. Next came chicken. Whatever started my allergies last summer has made a repeat performance this summer, but at least that can be controlled with a daily dose of Reactine. The newest perpetrator seems to be canned tuna. I'm pretty sure it was also the cause of my ailments in December when I was studying for my finals.
Maybe I can trade this body in for a new one, although with my luck they'd probably say the warranty had just run out.
[ 9.4.01 7:13 AM | keeps freshness in ]
The "saran wrap", as Nick so nicely put it, covering our windows to protect us from the harsh elements of winter is finally coming down.
Spring is in the air.
[ 8.4.01 4:53 PM | lil bit from column A, lil bit from column B ]
Does it make me an Internet snob that I get so frustrated using my mother's dial-in access that I just choose not to use it at all rather than bring myself to use something that seems to work at a snail's pace?
Or does it mean that I truly am not addicted to the Internet as I feared I was?
[ 5.4.01 7:00 AM | this isn't funny anymore ]
16 frickin' minutes ... that's how long I lasted last night before my computer repeated its little trick of a month ago.
I swear the writing gods are against me.
[ 4.4.01 6:12 PM | hate it when this happens ]
So. I'm going to make the statement here, in the hopes that actually putting it in writing willl make it happen.
I, tracy spike, will spend my time tonight writing.
I will not aimlessly surf the web. I will not get sucked into the television by some show I really don't want to watch. (I will however make time for Ed , because that happens to be a show I do like to watch). I will not clean my room, although it needs it. I will not make any other excuses as to why I cannot put words down on the screen.
I will start at 7.
[ 2.4.01 8:17 PM | Oh my ]
Wow.
I just found out that one of my best friends in high school is getting married next year. Although I knew the day was coming (she's been engaged for a little over three years now), to hear that she actually set a date ...
I don't know. It just all feels so ... grown up .
Don't get me wrong, I am absolutely thrilled for her. Estatic. And I know that she is so happy. I think maybe part of my surprise is that she wants me to be her Maid of Honour. So now I'm thinking of everything I have to do as her Maid of Honour to make this day as special for her as I possibly can.
Wow.
[ 2:08 PM | and it's snowing too! ]On my bus ride in to work this morning I noticed a sign with the message "Happy Daylight Savings Time!"
Yah Right. I don't think I was too happy this morning when I woke up at what felt like, to me, 5:30 in the morning.
[ 12:27 PM | hehe ]Okay, *now* you can say I have been neglecting my blog. oops.
As far as I know, there were no inturruptions in our Rogers service this weekend, so I have only myself to blame. But the weekend was an exception, I promise. :)
